PostSubject: Salary Cap   Thu Jul 15, 2010 4:38 pm

The Season Four Salary Cap is $59.4M with a Salary Floor of $30M.

This means teams can not exceed $59.4M in salaries on their pro team, nor can they fall below the $30M mark on their pro team.

Violation of the cap requirements are as follows:

Over the cap:

Should a team be over the cap when the Commissioner tries to sim;

1st Offense - the Commissioner will suspend whatever player(s) is necessary to bring said team back under the cap. They will only be suspended for the amount of games necessary to sim that particular day.

2nd Offense - Player(s) will be suspended for ten games.

3rd Offense - Player(s) will be suspended permanently, not playing another game for the team until they are back under the cap. The team will also lose their next available 1st round pick (*will go into a lottery) GM's standing in the league will also come into question and is subject to dismissal.

Under the cap:

Should a team be under the cap floor when the Commissioner tries to sim; the league will sign a player to the team to make up the salary difference in increments of $5M. Example, if a team is $2.5M under the floor, the league will sign a veteran player from the Free Agent list to the team for a $5M (5) contract, with the team being fined $5M in cash.

Yes, that's FIVE years.

Should the team be $5.3M under the cap, the signed player will be awarded a $10M (5) contract with the team being fined $5M.

Should the team be over $10M under the cap floor, the league will sign as many players as necessary (max signing is $10M per player) to bring the team back up to the cap requirements. All players will get a five year term and the team will be faced with a $5M cash fine for each player the league has to sign. Should the team not make any attempt to fix the issue by the end of the playoffs in that season, the team will forfeit their next available 1st round draft pick (*will go into a lottery)

The AHL Salary Cap will be $3M (so be careful with those one-way contracts!).

*Teams eligible for the lottery picks will be limited to non-playoff teams that do NOT own a 1st round pick. No team may win twice. If there are more picks than teams, then the league will include non-playoff teams that do NOT own their own 1st round draft pick.

Coming for season five...

Players that are offered ridiculous amounts of money (as a way of meeting cap requirements) will be looking for multi-year terms. As a side effect of this, the players' teammates will likely be looking for more money than they normally would be due to the team's irresponsible spending on marginal players.

Also regarding the cap, players that are traded within a week of the trade deadline and are pending UFAs will have the added bonus of the team trading for them only having to pick up the remainder of their salary for that year.

Example: Player 'A' makes $5M a season and is on the final year of his contract and is 27yrs old. Team #1 trades player at the All-Star break (say half way through the season) to Team #2. Team #2 now only owes the player approximately $1M against their cap.

Purpose? To encourage deadline trading, and to make those veteran players that rebuilding teams hang onto more valuable assets.

Season Six: The salary cap will be going up to $64.3M. Not sure what the floor will be just yet.
